Tennis Ladder Rules

Singles Ladder Information and Rules:

This ladder is structured as a round robin ladder as opposed to a challenge ladder. You can play anyone on the ladder at any point from April 1st to Oct. 31st to win points towards the final prizes.

The point system is as follows:

–You receive 10 points for any win over a new opponent.

–You receive 10 points for any rematch win over an opponent played only once.

–You receive 2 points for any subsequent win over an opponent played more than twice.

–No points are won for defaults (in case of lateness, miscommunication, cancellation, etc.). The player who has to default as a result of lateness or no show loses 10 points from their total.

After Oct. 31st the player with the most total points wins the ladder. Aside from eternal glory, there will be a cash prize and a trophy or medal awarded. Prizes will also be awarded for highest overall win percentage and most matches played.

For place and time of match, work it out with your opponent at a mutually convenient time/place. If you have a hard time agreeing on a place, Jefferson District Park or Wakefield Park can function as the default.

Matches can be played at any mutually agreed upon courts in DC, MD or NOVA. Default is outdoor—indoor also okay but only if both players agree. Clay is fine—if both players agree.

Format is three full sets unless both opponents agree to two sets and a tiebreaker. The default is three full sets so if one player would like to play three full sets and the other would like to play two sets and a tiebreaker, you need to use the default format. Regular scoring. For tiebreakers, either Coman or regular switching—just decide ahead of time.

Make sure to confirm place/time and exchange contact info.

Each player should bring a new can of balls to the match. If you would like to open a new can for the third set you can do so. Default is to use the first can.

Please be on time. If you are late by 20 or more minutes you lose the match.

If you play in the evening or on a weekend, you may want to reserve the court if possible. If not, I would suggest making sure you have a viable backup court.

You do not have to accept any challenges. However, you can only accrue points by winning matches—and primarily by winning matches against new opponents.

When the match is complete please send me the results and I will post them on the ladder page and update the point tally.

All standard USTA rules should be adhered to.

If you are technically not a 4.5 player, you can still play if you like. Just keep in mind that this ladder is intended to be for 4.5 and up players.

Have fun!
